Tears flowed as I listened from up in the kitchen as they played "Advance,
Australia Fair" for Cathy
Freeman. Down in the den, Elsa had the volume turned up
high and the two of us grinned at each other like a couple of idiots, she at
the foot of the steps, describing the action, me at the top, hanging onto every
word and note.
I imagined how it felt to be in Stadium
Australia as the whole place sang the words to the national anthem and I am
sure, quite sure, that the entire country sang along with
them. I imagined an entire continent united
in song and pride. What a moment. Go. Aussies!
